Fort St. John and Hudson’s Hope to observe Day of Mourning

Fort St. John and Hudson’s Hope will both observe the Day of Mourning to honour fallen B.C. workers on April 28th.

Fort St. John’s Day of Mourning will take place at Festival Plaza starting at 11.45 a.m. (Tre Lopushinsky, Energeticcity.ca)

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Fort St. John and Hudson’s Hope are set to observe a Day of Mourning to honour fallen B.C. workers. 

According to an update on the city’s website, the City of Fort St. John and BC General Employees’ Union (BCGEU) are inviting residents to join in as they honour the 146 B.C. workers who have died from a workplace injury or disease on April 28th.  

The update said city staff and attendees will participate in a group walk in memory of the B.C. workers starting at 11.45 a.m. at Festival Plaza.

The walk is followed by laying of wreaths and food and beverages, which will be provided by the BCGEU area 10 cross component committee and the North Central Labour Council. 

Meanwhile, the District of Hudson’s Hope will also be observing the Day of Mourning on April 28th at the Municipal Workers’ Monument from 11 a.m.
