NLC to install new solar panel at trades centre in Dawson Creek

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – Northern Lights College in Dawson Creek plans to install a new solar array on the roof of the Trades Training Centre this year.

The NLC plans to have thirty 360-watt panels to produce 13 megawatt-hours per year for phase one of the plan.

The entire array will have 150 360-watt panels and produce 65-megawatt hours per year.

Last summer, the facilities department used funding for a solar panel array for the NLC Farm in Dawson Creek.

This twelve-panel system is tied into the electrical grid and can produce five megawatt-hours per year.

NLC also says they are looking at upgrading the solar panels that are currently part of the Centre for Clean Energy Technology.

The college has annual carbon-neutral funding from the provincial government and has used it to buy green products, such as LED lightbulbs and automatic faucets.
