City reminds drivers to yield of Fire Hall’s flashing red lights
FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Following on the heels of a local bus driver’s campaign to raise fines against drivers that ignore flashing red lights on school buses, the City is reminding residents to stop at flashing red lights near the fire hall on 93 Avenue.
City spokesperson Julie Rogers said a PSA was posted to social media due to a request from the Fire Safety Committee.
Over at the fire hall, fire administrator Kelly Giffin says there is an incident of this nature almost everyday.
A big reason many people continue to keep ignoring the lights, Giffin says, is possibly just drivers being caught off guard.
However, Rogers noted, the fire hall isn’t the only service in the city that sees drivers continually ignore their safety signals.
According to B.C’s motor vehicle act, drivers must yield to flashing beacons and come to a complete stop.
