Local vet’s application for leave dismissed

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A Fort St. John veterinarian’s ‘leave to appeal’ application was dismissed in the Supreme Court of Canada. 

Justin Sewell pleaded guilty to charges of sexual assault, unlawfully recording intimate images and voyeurism in November 2022 and was sentenced last April to two years less a day of house arrest. 

According to the BC Prosecution Service, Sewell filed an application for leave to appeal from the Court of Appeal decision to the Supreme Court of Canada.

However, the Supreme Court of Canada dismissed Sewell‘s application on April 23rd. 

 “Leave” to appeal means “permission” to appeal, explained the BC Prosecution Service. 

This comes after Sewell’s bail application was dismissed by the B.C. Court of Appeal
