FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – BC Hydro will be burning debris around Site C project areas in the upcoming days.

Until November 24th, Hydro will be burning along the south bank of the Western Reservoir between Halfway River and Farrell Creek, roughly 43 km to 48 km upstream west of Fort St. John.

Any debris that can’t be removed, mulched, or chipped needs to be burned, which Hydro plans and monitors. Debris burning also complies with the regulatory requirements and the Site C Smoke Management Plan.

Debris burning only takes place during the fall and winter months during specific weather conditions, also known as a venting window, which means that there is enough positive atmospheric pressure and airflow to disperse the smoke.

BC Hydro will also be transporting timber between Cache Creek and Peace Canyon. Helicopters will be utilized and will occur regularly until March 2022.
