One in custody in RCMP shots-fired investigation

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John RCMP have arrested one individual involved with an evening shots-fired investigation on July 22.

According to a July 24 press release, Tyrone McGee is in RCMP custody and faces one charge of reckless discharge of a firearm.

RCMP responded to a report of shots being fired in the area of 112th Ave. and 108th St. near C.M. Finch Elementary School on the evening of July 22.

The July 24 release explained the crime scene was very large due to witness reports of a black sedan exchanging gunfire with a pedestrian before fleeing the scene.

During the subsequent investigation, Tyrone McGee, who is believed to be the pedestrian, was found by police with a gunshot wound and taken to the hospital. McGee was arrested, and once he was discharged from the hospital, he was lodged in RCMP cells and remains in custody.

Five residences and one vehicle were also hit by gunfire.

Sergeant Ian Rissanen, Plain Clothes Commander for the Fort St John RCMP, stated the Fort St John RCMP Serious Crimes Unit, Drug Unit, Forensic Identification Section and the Peace-Liard Police Dog Service and Fort St John frontline officers worked “through the night” to support charges against McGee. Cooperation from neighbourhood residents also yielded additional leads for the investigation.

“An abundance of physical evidence was located throughout the scene and it should only be a matter of time until we identify and locate the occupants of the suspect car that fled,” Rissanen said.

RCMP are continuing their investigation, and are asking for the public’s assistance with locating a black 2016 Subaru Legacy bearing B.C. licence plate A029WA. Do not approach the car if it is located, and instead immediately report it to your local police agency.
