FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) is asking for community engagement about garbage and recycling facilities in the region.

According to a press release, the PRRD has put out an online public survey to start collecting feedback into solid waste management within the district.

Hard copies of the survey will also be distributed to all landfills and transfer stations, as well as its offices in Dawson Creek at 1981 Alaska Avenue and in Fort St. John at 9505 100th Street.

Currently, the PRRD regional solid waste network includes three landfills, 16 attended and 11 unattended transfer stations, three privately-run recycling depots and nine unattended recycling drop-off sites.

“The PRRD covers a large area with widely spread communities and wants to make sure the system works well for everyone,” reads part of the release.

“This assessment will help the PRRD learn what is working for facility users, what could be improved to make the system easier to use and more cost-efficient.”

In 2021, the PRRD announced the regional solid waste management plan to identify and improve access and efficiency in the solid waste facility network.

Network upgrades were paused at the time pending the completion of a full-scale network assessment.

The survey is open from Monday, March 2nd to Friday, March 20th at 4:30 p.m. mountain standard time.

Access to the online survey is available on its website. To request a hard copy of the survey, please call the PRRD at 250-784-3200 or email communications@prrd.bc.ca.
