To kick off 2026, we are excited to announce a new member of the team: Ruth Albert! Ruth was a lifestyle reporter in India, studied journalism at Sheridan College in Ontario, and is now our General Reporter here in Fort St John. Here is a message from Ruth:

Ruth Albert

“Thank you for the warm welcome you have given me this past month. The city has definitely been a completely different experience compared to Ontario. Even with the weather, all the snow and not to mention the amount of times I have slipped on the ice, I’m glad to call this city my home.

Joining the newsroom has been exciting and it has taught me so much in one month. Though it’s completely the opposite of what I used to do in my home country, I now enjoy working on stories that are challenging and community-based.
I look forward to meeting you all in the coming months.”

Make sure to say hi to Ruth if you see her at any local events! With our News Director and four reporters, we continue to be the largest newsroom in northeast BC. Our goal is to be your trustworthy source of local news for all of the communities in our area. If you have any questions or concerns, make sure to reach out at contact@energeticcity.ca any time throughout the year or go to our Contact Us page.

Most-Read Stories of the Week

It’s always interesting to see what the readers of Energeticcity.ca are most curious about. Sometimes it’s a big decision that will impact property taxes, and sometimes it’s a new restaurant coming to town. Here are the most-read stories for the week of January 4 to 10, 2026:

  1. Victoria Animal Shelter Seeks “Flight Angels”: in Fort St John to help transport dogs and cats. A “flight angel” is someone who is already flying and willing to add an animal to their flight itinerary.
  2. Taylor Resident Calls for Quicker Plowing: of Highway 97 turn lanes. Amber St. Laurent was driving into the city from Taylor when she felt forced to drive all the way to Charlie Lake as the turn lanes were left unplowed.
  3. One Pleads Guilty: in Fort St John manslaughter case. Katlin Darcy Cota along with two other individuals were arrested following the death of a person in the parking lot of the Fort St. John Alliance Church on June 24th, 2025.
