Fort St. John records heaviest December snowfall in more than a decade in 2025
In December 2025, 103.9 centimetres of snow was recorded falling in Fort St. John – the most for that month since 2013.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Fort St. John finished off 2025 with the most snowfall it has experienced in December in more than a decade and more to come in the new year.
Throughout the entirety of December, 103.9 centimetres of snow was recorded falling in Fort St. John.
This is the most snowfall for December recorded since 2013, when 135.6 centimetres blanketed the region.
In December 2024, Environment Canada recorded only 36.6 centimetres of snowfall in Fort St. John.
Halfway through December 2025, the City of Fort St. John called in extra contractors to support city staff in snow removal efforts.
In an interview with Energeticcity.ca, Environment Canada meteorologist Brian Proctor explained the weather was due to an “Arctic air mass” passing over the region.
Proctor also confirmed the region had experienced 300 per cent of its average snowfall for the month as of December 18th, and noted it would be beneficial for regional drought conditions depending on how quickly temperatures warm up.

The significant snowfall has caused various issues, including a woman whose sewage removal was delayed by three weeks and a man whose driveway was blocked by a 10-foot pile of snow.

As of January 1st, Environment Canada measured 5.9 centimetres of snowfall in Fort St. John.
The weather service forecasts periods of snow lasting from January 2nd to January 4th, with temperatures of -22 C on January 3rd and -20 C on January 4th.
