FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The city has approved an amendment to its policy on naming rights to unlock over half a million in potential revenue.

During the December 8th meeting, the City of Fort St. John council approved an amendment to its naming rights policy, adopted in 2009.

The city began considering naming rights in October, after a presentation from marketing agency Cimoroni revealed the value of the naming rights of 12 parks and facilities was approximately $525,000.

“Naming rights to public recreation amenities offer a revenue stream which offsets the significant operating and capital costs associated with these facilities,” staff stated in the report.

The changes bring the city’s policy into alignment with “comparable municipalities and updating its provisions to reflect current industry trends and expectations.”

The new policy serves to “guide and inform” tendering processes for naming rights proposals, and offers guidelines for organizations looking to submit a proposal.
