Pine Pass reopens but hazardous conditions remain, with planned closure for avalanche control

The Pine Pass reopened on the morning of December 11th, however, winter conditions remain challenging and avalanche control work is scheduled.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Pine Pass has reopened following an avalanche-related closure.

Highway 97 was closed between Powder King Road and Old Hasler Road just before 9 a.m. on December 10th after a high avalanche hazard was forecast for the region.

Argo Road Maintenance, which provides road services for the South Peace region, said on the morning of December 11th the pass has reopened; however, winter conditions remain challenging.

Avalanche control work is planned in the region between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. today (December 11th), with a one-hour closure expected during this time.

Snow continues to fall in the area, accompanied by blowing snow and limited visibility.

Drivers are advised to watch for slippery sections, drifting snow and road maintenance crews working along the corridor.
