Grizzlies basketball teams make impressive showing in Grande Prairie
The Northwestern Polytechnic High School Basketball Tournament in Grande Prairie featured North Peace Grizzlies’ squads on December 5th and 6th.

GRANDE PRAIRIE, AB. — Teams from Fort St. John’s lone secondary school suited up – and had success – in one of the region’s largest basketball tournaments during the first weekend of December.
Both the junior girls’, junior boys’ and senior boys’ Grizzlies squads from North Peace Secondary School (NPSS) competed in the Northwestern Polytechnic High School Basketball Tournament in Grande Prairie.
Other teams in the region – including from Chetwynd and Dawson Creek – also took part.

Games took place at several venues around the city, with Grande Prairie Composite High School, Charles Spencer High School and St. John Paul II Catholic School all hosting games.
Each in a 16-team field against teams from across Western Canada, the Grizzlies clawed their way forward in winning several contests.
The senior boys’ team started the tourney strong, dispatching Charles Spencer’s junior boys’ squad by a score of 61-31 on Friday, December 5th.
They followed it up with a win over Grande Prairie’s Peace Wapiti Academy, advancing to the semi-finals on Saturday, where they faced the team from Grande Prairie Composite High School.

Defeating them, they took on Charles Spencer in the finals on Saturday evening. However, the Grizzlies would fall short, losing 98-80 to their opponent’s Mavericks team.
Additional results saw the junior boys’ team on the winning end of a contest versus Beaverlodge Regional High School, and the senior girls’ team advancing to the finals where they also faced Charles Spencer, coming out on the losing end.
The 2025 Northwestern Polytechnic High School Basketball Tournament took place on Friday, December 5th and Saturday, December 6th in Grande Prairie.
