FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. —  Just like the sport of pickleball, the region’s pickleball association is doing some work to help in the kitchen with a holiday food drive.

A post on the Peace Country Pickleball Association’s (PCPA) Facebook page on December 8th by PCPA president April Bordeleau announced a food drive during the club’s indoor dates on December 12th and 14th.

The members-only sessions will take place at Bert Bowes Middle School and Margaret ‘Ma’ Murray Community School, respectively.

Bordeleau told Energeticcity.ca donations from the two dates will be contributed to the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society next week.

As a former member of the board at the society, Bordeleau told Energeticcity.ca that added dependence on the food bank over the holiday season means she “knows how desperate”  the society can be at this time of the year.

“Everybody in the community seems to be pitching in,” said Bordeleau. “[You have got] Century 21 doing their toy drive for the Salvation Army.

“I thought we would do the other side and [raise] food. Hopefully, we can get a truckload.”

Recently, the Women’s Resource Society put out a call for food donations during the holiday season

With the winter weather in full swing, the PCPA has been hosting club play for members since October at the two schools.

They also offer beginner indoor classes on Tuesday evenings at Robert Ogilvie Elementary School in Fort St. John.

On the courts, Bordeleau told Energeticcity.ca 60 new members joined the PCPA between May and November, putting the club at 157 members.

The last sessions for 2025 will be on Friday, December 19th at Bert Bowes. Members-only play will resume on Monday, January 5th, 2026.

More details about the PCPA can be found on its Facebook page or website.
