Canada secures second victory at Para Hockey Cup in Dawson Creek

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The Canadian para ice hockey team opened up the Para Hockey Cup with a huge win.

The tournament, scheduled for this week at Dawson Creek’s Ovintiv Events Centre, will pit the four highest-ranking para ice hockey teams against one another in the final international event before the 2026 Winter Paralympics in Italy.

Canada, which opened with a 7-0 victory over China in the event’s opening game on November 30th, was looking to go to two wins in as many games and gain the highest seeding before this weekend’s semi-finals.

Taking on Czechia on December 1st, the Canadians got a two-goal performance from forward Liam Hickey and Canada prevailed by a score of 3-1.

Team captain forward Tyler McGregor had two assists in the game. In doing so, he became the fifth national team member in history to record 300 career points with Canada.

His performance follows a stellar game against China, in which he had a hat trick. He now shares the tournament point lead with teammate Hickey, each with five points.

Team Canada has Tuesday off before their final preliminary round matchup against the United States on Wednesday, December 3rd.

Meanwhile, the Americans also went to 2-0 after defeating China on December 2nd by a score of 6-3. The U.S. won its opening game against Czechia also by a score of 3-1.
