Behind the Scenes
We are sad to say that we are saying goodbye to our General Reporter Steve Berard as he is heading home to Ontario. Here is a message from Steve about his time here in Fort St John:

“After nearly two years with Moose Media, I’ve made the difficult decision to move on for another position in Ontario.
I feel like a completely different person than I did when I arrived in the Peace region at the tail end of last spring. I remember every minute of the drive here from Ottawa, every inch of snow I had to force my car through. I remember feeling at home after I started to settle down. I remember adopting my dog a few weeks after I found an apartment. I remember taking over as the Interim News Director soon after I arrived at Moose Media, a position I held for about six months, helping keep the newsroom running smoothly.
I have so much love in my heart now for Fort St. John and the Peace region. This was my first time really spreading my wings and leaving home for an extended period of time, and I can’t believe how beautiful this country can be. I feel like I’ve grown more as a person in my time here than in all the years I spent at home, but it’s been difficult at times, especially these last few months.
I turned 25 a few weeks ago. A few months before that, I lost nearly everything I brought with me from home in a fire. Those are the kinds of major life milestones that make you reassess everything about where you are, where you’ve been and where you’re going. I love all of the people that I’ve met in my time here, but nothing has ever made me miss all the connections I have back in the Ottawa area like living through the last few months has.
Latest Stories
Fort St. John will forever hold a part of my soul. I will treasure the memories I made here for the rest of my life. I hope I can come back sometimes and make more. I still need to take that road trip to the Yukon that’s been on my bucket list for a few years now.
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the people I’ve worked with in the newsroom here since I arrived. None of what happens here would be possible without great reporters like Caitlin, Ed and Max or a great news director like Franki.
I also want to thank Adam for putting his faith in me so early in my time here. I wouldn’t have grown as much as a reporter and a writer in general without that trust.”
Thank you very much to Steve for being with us, you will be missed! Needless to say, we are now hiring a new General Assignment Reporter. If you or someone you know would be interested, click the button below to learn more:
