Recently, members of our team have been attending various conferences to continue to expand our knowledge to better serve our readers. Here is a message from our News Director Franki Berry about those recent conferences:

“I have been busy attending conferences this October. First, was a local gem – the Spark Women’s Resource Leadership Conference – which returned to the Pomeroy Hotel and Conference Centre on October 8th and 9th. I secured a spot alongside local women from all walks of life who came together for the uplifting and inspiring event. You can read more about that here.
Then, last week, I jetsetted way out east to Prince Edward Island for the Putting the Local Back in Local News conference (October 20th to 22nd), organized by the Rideau Hall Foundation and Michener Awards. It was a great opportunity to meet with other newsroom leaders in Canada to share ideas and discuss how we can continue to best serve our audiences and tell your stories. There were presentations on the role local news plays in democracy, the rise of AI and how regional publishers can support each other.
Latest Stories
I wasn’t the only one from the Energeticcity.ca team who has been out and about this month. Moose Media president Adam Reaburn also attended the Northern Cyber Defence Conference on October 23rd in Fort St. John, where cybercrime and preparing for the fallout of a hack were at the top of the agenda, and Press Forward’s Future of Independent Media Summit in Ottawa on October 3rd and 4th.
At Energeticcity, we are always working on ways to advance our journalism to better represent our readers.”
Most-Read Stories of the Week
It’s always interesting to see what the readers of Energeticcity.ca are most curious about. Sometimes it’s a big decision that will impact property taxes, and sometimes it’s a new restaurant coming to town. Here are the most-read stories for the week of October 19 to 25, 2025:
- Highway 97 Was Closed South of Chetwynd: on October 19, 2025. The cause of the closure was due to downed power lines. BC Hydro workers were able to clear the road and allow traffic to resume.
- Update on Greyhound Bus Service: after the company was bought by German discount bus service FlixBus. Rather than be responsible for the entire line, FlixBus plans to outsource the service to local contractors who licence the Greyhound name.
- John Wendell Keyler Dead in Prison: at the age of 40. Keyler was arrested in July 2020 after confessing to killing his girlfriend, Sarah Foord, in Taylor a few weeks prior.
