FORT NELSON, B.C. — Fort Nelson will soon be home to just two bank branches as the local Scotiabank prepares to close its doors.

In an email to Energeticcity.ca staff, the company — one of the largest banks in the country, originally from Nova Scotia and headquartered in Toronto — confirmed plans to close its Fort Nelson branch.

The statement from the company says the decision to close the branch came “after careful consideration,” and that branch services will be relocated to Fort St. John.

The company says all affected clients will be notified, and Scotiabank intends to work with them to “ensure a smooth transition.”

Once the branch closes, Beem Credit Union — a B.C.-based bank — and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) will be the only banks with branches operating in Fort Nelson.
