DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Dawson Creek firefighters say quick action on their part led to a shed fire being knocked down quickly and the neighbouring shop not sustaining significant damage.

According to a Facebook post from the Dawson Creek Fire Rescue, early in the morning on Wednesday, October 1st, a crew was dispatched to a property in the 1600 block of Alaska Avenue due to reports of visible flames.

Once firefighters arrived at the scene and confirmed a shed had caught fire, off-duty members of the department were reportedly paged to assist in suppressing the blaze.

After forcing their way into the area, firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the shed fire, preventing it from spreading to a nearby shop.

“What happens in seconds on scene reflects hours of training, coordination and trust under pressure,” the post reads.

“It’s work the public sometimes doesn’t see but that’s the work that keeps our community safe.”
