Shell Canada donates $7,000 to North Peace Secondary’s metalwork program
The $7,000 donation from Shell to North Peace Secondary School went towards the purchase of a TIG welder and a beveler.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Metalwork students at North Peace Secondary School have access to new equipment thanks to a donation from Shell Canada.
Shell provided $7,000 to support the school’s metal shop this summer, funding the purchase of a TIG welder for the grade 12 welding class, as well as a four- to eight-inch beveler and torch for the grade 12 metal class.
“Thanks to Shell’s contribution, we were able to significantly enhance the learning experience for our students,” said Ian Zackodnik, who teaches computer programming and metalwork at the school.

“These additions not only improve the quality and scope of instruction but also help us better align our training with current industry standards.”
While Zackodnik said this was the first time he ever interacted with Shell personally, he noted that the company has contributed to School District 60 in the past.
In November 2024, the company donated $20,000 to support student safety training, covering programs such as occupational first aid and H2S Alive that are prerequisites for dual-credit opportunities at Northern Lights College.
