Car impounded after Fort St. John RCMP say illicit drugs, BB gun found in traffic stop

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — A traffic stop by the Fort St. John RCMP detachment led to a vehicle being impounded this weekend.

According to North District media relations officer Madonna Saunderson, an RCMP frontline officer conducted what was described as a “proactive” traffic stop on Sunday, September 14th at around 9:40 a.m. on 100th Street and 100th Avenue.

The driver was allegedly found to not be in possession of a driver’s licence, with officers reporting the individual had contraband cigarettes and open liquor in “plain view.”

Upon further search under the authority of the excise act, the officers discovered “illicit drugs” and a BB gun in the vehicle, items officers say the driver surrendered to police.

A roadside sobriety test was then conducted, with the subject allegedly performing poorly. 

The vehicle was impounded for 24 hours, with citations including a 24-hour driving suspension, along with tickets for not having a driver’s licence and driving with open liquor in a vehicle.
