Fort St. John strength athlete crowned province’s strongest man

Strength athlete Alex Lorincz captured the strongman title at the BC Strongman Amateur Provincials in Williams Lake during Labour Day weekend 2025.

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — A Fort St. John-based athlete has muscled his way to the top of the province’s strongman ladder.

Alex Lorincz competed in the  2025 B.C. Strongman Amateur Provincials competition over the Labour Day long weekend in Williams Lake.

Earlier this summer, Lorincz also finished second in the Alberta Strongman finals, which took place in Edmonton.

Competing in the open division, Lorincz had top three finishes over all five events on Saturday, August 30th.

Lorincz won in the frame category, which features athletes carrying a steel frame fitted with 600 kilograms for 40 feet, along with a win in the yoke bag carry, of 300 kilograms for 40 feet.

“Three years into strongman [and] first time taking a shot at two provincials,” wrote Lorincz in a Facebook post about the event. “First in B.C. and second in Alberta.

“I’m extremely happy with my results this year.”

With his victory, Lorincz qualified for Amateur National Championship finals in Calgary on October 3rd to 5th. However, Lorincz he said he will not participate, but he did not elaborate further.

B.C.’s Strongman Amateur Provincials finals took place on August 30th in Williams Lake and were sanctioned by Strongman Corporation Canada.

A guy who found his calling later in life, Edward Hitchins is a professional storyteller with a colourful and extensive history.
