FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Two young Peace region athletes have made the top 15 in the next round of the online contest with a spot in Sports Illustrated magazine on the line.

Dawson Creek’s Addison Webb, a competitive dancer, is through after securing first place in her group.

She will join Bentley Hunt, who got through to the next round in his group and – according to a Facebook post – is from Fort St. John.

Hunt, a player for the Fort St. John Soccer Club, finished eighth in his group.

Winners of the contest will receive a $25,000 cash prize and the opportunity to be featured in a 3Brand advertisement for the sports magazine.

In a statement, Webb’s mom Paige Healey said Webb’s family is “beyond thankful for all the amazing supporters.”

The 2021 Dawson Creek Youth of the Year has held the top spot in her grouping since late July.

“We can’t wait to see how Addison progresses in this competition,” wrote Healey to Energeticcity.ca.

The top 10 in each group will be selected through an online vote until August 21st at 7 p.m. Pacific Time.

The Youth Athlete of the Year is an online competition that raises money for two charities: the V Foundation, a charity founded by the late Jim Valvano dedicated to cancer research, and a charity founded by National Football League quarterback Russell Wilson and wife Ciara dedicated to fighting poverty among youth through education.

Energeticcity.ca has reached out to Hunt’s family for a comment but did not hear back in time for publication.
