FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John International Airshow is back at the North Peace Regional Airport this weekend.

This is the first airshow in three years, after the 2024 iteration was cancelled due to complications.

The two-day event will feature a variety of airplanes and aviation enthusiasts, including homemade stunt planes flown all the way from Washington, D.C., to one of the BC Wildfire Service’s Kenn Borek Air ‘jumpships’ used for smokejumper operations.

Attendees can also look to the skies and see performances from the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, the Royal Canadian Air Force’s (RCAF) demonstration team flying original Canadair CT-114 Tutor jets built between 1963 and 1966.

Captain Brendan Pellow pilots Snowbird number four, which flies first line astern while in formation, and says flying with the Snowbirds was just one pinnacle in a career he hopes is “full of pinnacles.”

The 2025 show season is his first flying with the Snowbirds after more than 10 years in the RCAF, having logged approximately 1,500 ejection seat-flying hours.

The Canadair jet planes are equipped with ejection seats, which allow the pilot to exit the aircraft rapidly in case of a crippling event such as a bird strike.

He says he is excited to travel to smaller communities such as Fort St. John this year, because it allows the team to interact one-on-one with the crowd.

The Snowbirds will be travelling across the country in the coming months to perform in more than 20 air shows, with the next performance scheduled in Penticton on August 6th.
