FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The first shipment of liquid natural gas (LNG) has left the LNG Canada facility in Kitimat.
On June 30th, Shell announced the departure of the first shipment of LNG from the LNG Canada facility in northwest B.C.
The tanker, the GasLow Glasgow, arrived at the facility on June 30th and will be transporting the LNG across the Pacific Ocean to Asian markets.
LNG Canada is anticipated to export 14 million tonnes a year, and is a joint venture between four Asian partners and Shell
According to Shell president Cederic Cremers, the facility would mostly be producing for markets in Asia.
“We expect that supplying LNG will be the biggest contribution Shell will make to the energy transition over the next decade, and projects like LNG Canada position our portfolio to achieve this,” Cremers said.
The $40 billion facility began processing LNG on June 22nd.
