FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — In his first appearance at Alberta Provincials, a local strength sports competitor did not disappoint.

Alex Lorincz wrote on social media about his performance at Alberta Strongman Association’s Capital City Showdown last weekend in Edmonton.

He said he was “very happy with how it all turned out” as he finished the event in second place.

“I was very excited to have the chance to meet [and] compete against a bunch of really good athletes,” wrote Lorincz on his Instagram page.

Lorincz started off with a sixth-place finish in the meet’s first event, a loading race which involved maneuvering a sand bag, a light keg and a heavy keg.

Lorincz said a “rules misunderstanding” on a “risky move” cost him as he finished the event with a time of 26.22 seconds.

He rebounded in subsequent events. In the trap-bar deadlift competition with 650 pounds of weight, he managed nine reps, good for third place.

Lorincz did even better in the next event, a heavy-bag race with 275 pounds over the shoulder.  Crediting his “extra cardio” for his performance, Lorincz finished in a tie for first.

He followed it up with a victory in the fourth event, which was a log and circus dumbbell event in which he lifted 275 and 180 pounds respectively.

Lorincz finished his day off with a time of 11.25 seconds in the duck walk, setting for second overall at the competition behind Grande Prairie’s Kyle Francotti.

Lorincz will next compete at the B.C. Strongman Provincial Championship, slated to take place in Williams Lake on August 30th.

The Capital City Showdown took place on Saturday, June 21st in Edmonton, Alberta. Visit the event’s Instagram page for more details.
