Chetwynd emergency department closes for third time in June

Chetwynd General Hospital’s emergency department has closed for the third time in 16 days during June, this time for 25 hours from June 16th to 17th.

CHETWYND, B.C. — Chetwynd’s emergency department has closed for the third time this month, this time for more than 24 hours. 

In a Facebook post published at 8 p.m. on June 15th, Northern Health announced that due to “staffing challenges”, the emergency department at Chetwynd General Hospital would be closed from 7 a.m. on June 16th to 8 a.m. on June 17th.

Residents in the Chetwynd area who need life-threatening emergency care are directed to call 911 for transport to the nearest emergency medical facility.

For non-urgent care needs, patients without a family doctor should call the NH Virtual Primary and Community Care Clinic on 1-844-645-7811.

So far in June, Chetwynd’s emergency department has closed three times for a total of 84.5 hours. The first closure was for an entire weekend from June 7th to 9th and the second also started on June 9th.
