Evacuation alert issued for Kiskatinaw River wildfire
Residents south of Dawson Creek have been issued an evacuation alert by the Peace River Regional District due to a wildfire in the Kiskatinaw River area near Heritage Highway (Highway 52).

DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — An evacuation alert has been issued due to the wildfire south of Dawson Creek.
The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) has issued an evacuation alert as of 1:30 p.m. on recommendation of the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).
The wildfire was first discovered on May 28th in the Kiskatinaw River area near Heritage Highway (Highway 52).
BCWS said the fire has burned 115 hectares and is listed as ‘out of control.’
The PRRD is asking the following areas to be on alert:
- Approximately 10km south of One Island Lake turnoff on Highway 52 east
- Fourteen kilometres west to the west side of One Island Lake
- Due south approximately 20km
- Due east approximately 22km to the B.C. border
- North 17km to a point along the B.C. Border
- Due west approximately seven kilometres to Highway 52 east

People in the area can see if they are affected by the evacuation alert by entering their address on the district’s online map tool here.
The PRRD is telling residents to locate all family members, designate a meeting area outside the evacuation area, prepare to move anyone requiring assistance, pets and others.
People in the evacuation alert area can receive notifications by signing up on the North East BC Emergency and Public Alerts website.
An evacuation alert for a portion of the County of Grande Prairie was issued for the wildfire at 3:21 p.m (4:21 p.m. MDT).
Argo Road Maintenance of Dawson Creek has announced Highway 52 east between Kelly Lake and the Kiskatinaw Forest Service Road has been closed due to the fire.
DriveBC says the next update will be on Friday morning at 9 a.m.
