Police report major crime reduction in Fort St. John
RCMP in Fort St. John reported a significant decrease in crime rates “across the board” in April.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The city’s new acting officer in charge at the RCMP detachment has reported a major drop in crime throughout last month.Â
During the May 26th regular meeting, Fort St. John city council reviewed the local RCMP detachment’s monthly update for April 2025.Â
According to Sergeant Jaime Moffat, the newly-appointed acting officer in charge (OIC) for the Fort St. John RCMP, crime statistics were down “across the board” throughout the month.Â
Break and enter incidents to businesses went down by 50 per cent from eight reports to four, and only one break and enter to residence report was filed compared to four in March.Â
“A trend noted from the break-ins and the theft from vehicles is that hand tools are specifically being targeted in a majority of reports,” Moffat stated in the written report.Â
Moffat went on to say the special enforcement unit was engaged and investigating the trend.Â
He also praised local officers for their actions throughout the month, specifically noting an incident where a vehicle was reportedly stolen by armed suspects.Â
