Blizzard Bicycle Club hosts ‘Pie Ride’ to Mile 72 in Charlie Lake
Members of the Blizzard Bicycle Club headed to The Shepherd’s Inn at Mile 72 in Charlie Lake as a way of taking in the long Victoria Day weekend.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — In something a little different, Blizzard Bicycle Club gave new meaning to the term ‘weekend ride.’
Members of the club headed to The Shepherd’s Inn at Mile 72 in Charlie Lake as a way of taking in the long weekend, with members posing for a picture outside the establishment at 11890 Shepherd’s Inn Frontage Road.
At stake was a prize of one of the restaurant’s famed pies, which club co-founder and secretary Pat Ferris joked was “a good idea to entice people, especially cyclists, with food.” Hence, the trek was nicknamed a Pie Ride.

Ferris said at least six riders made the trip on Saturday, May 17th with Nigel Wray leading the group along a 130-kilometre ride.
“It’s good to know [for] days of long rides, the weather can be cooperative,” said Ferris.
“This was the first long weekend in the spring and summer. We’re going to keep doing that if we have a long weekend in the July 1st long weekend. People are quite interested in doing it.”
According to Ferris, cyclists had the option of riding a shorter distance to Charlie Lake and heading back after having a meal with club members, similar to the club’s road races.
