(UPDATE) Wildfire reported south west of Tumbler Ridge

The BC Wildfire Service reported a 26-hectare smouldering wildfire southwest of Tumbler Ridge on May 2nd.

Updated, May 12th, 9:45 a.m.: BCWS has now extinguished this fire, and the story below has been updated.

TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. — A wildfire which ignited to the southwest of Tumbler Ridge has now been reported as extinguished.

The fire was discovered on May 2nd in the Wolverine River area, off Mast Creek Road.

According to the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS), the fire burned 26 hectares but crews worked through the night to take advantage of the low fire activity.

Human activity is suspected to have caused the fire.
