FORT ST JOHN, B.C. — Northern Health is now accepting applications for a grant geared toward funding community-led health and wellness initiatives.

The health authority’s ‘Imagine’ grants supply up to $10,000 to projects that focus on mental wellness, community diversity, food security, harm reduction, community safety, climate health action or active living.

The program is open to community organizations, non-profits, municipalities and regional districts, First Nations bands and health centres, schools and PACs, and Indigenous organizations.

Applications opened on April 4th and are set to close on May 16th, with funding slated to be dispersed to approved projects in June.

Previous initiatives funded by ‘Imagine’ grants in the Peace River region include the Charlie Lake Community Garden, a portable skateboard park in Hudson’s Hope and the West Moberly Food Pantry.

Northern Health says preference will be given to projects that identify community needs, develop and bolster skills and resources within the community, reduce health inequities, support partnerships, build relationships and have a good chance of continuing after funding ends.

‘Imagine’ funding is not available for academic research, one-time programs with no lasting impact, individuals or personal businesses, or to provide food for food banks.

The money is also not to be used for prize money, gift cards or projects outside of Northern Health’s jurisdiction.
