FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Free tax services are returning this April for low-income individuals and families in Fort St. John.

The Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society (FSJWRS) announced on March 14th it is continuing its partnership with MNP, offering a tax clinic for residents in need.

“MNP has been an invaluable partner throughout the years in helping our clients — low-income families in the Fort St. John area — and we can’t thank them enough for their continued support,” said Amanda Trotter, executive director of FSJWRS.

The society says the clinic will ensure eligible residents meet their tax obligations while getting the best access to tax benefits.

“Many families rely on tax refunds and benefits to manage their basic expenses, and this initiative ensures they don’t miss out on what they’re entitled to,” said Trotter.

Some of the tax benefits include GST credits, child benefits and other government assistance.

“This is one of the many ways MNP gives back to our community,” said MNP partner Tara Waddy.

Operating since 2017, the clinic is available for personal income tax appointments only with 15-minute sessions on Saturday, April 5th from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m at The Healing Place at 9912 96th Avenue.

To be eligible, total earnings must be $42,000 or less for the year 2024, and documents like photo ID, T4 or T5007 must be brought in.

MNP is an accounting firm providing accounting, consulting, tax and digital services in more than 150 communities.

“We are proud to continue supporting low-income families in Fort St. John,” said Waddy.

Appointments can be booked by calling the FSJWRS reception at 250-787-1121.

On March 14th, the society reinstalled its front sign after it was vandalized by a group of individuals the previous week.
