DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — The RCMP’s North District Major Crime Unit has taken over an investigation into shootings in Dawson Creek that left one person dead and another injured.

Officers were sent to the hotel, where they found one person with “non-life-threatening injuries” who was taken to the hospital for treatment.

These two incidents came days after another shooting on Friday. Two suspects in that shooting investigation have been arrested and charged.

Residents are being told to expect an increased police presence in the community after what the detachment is calling a “higher than usual level of violence” that officers believe is connected to an ongoing gang conflict.

Members of the North District Major Crime Unit, North District General Investigation Section, Uniformed Gang Enforcement Team, E Division Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, and officers from other nearby RCMP detachments have all been deployed to Dawson Creek.

“Dawson Creek RCMP will continue conducting dedicated proactive enhanced enforcement initiatives, focusing our efforts on apprehending those responsible for violent and often public offenses,” North District Operations Officer Steve McLeod says.

“Through proactive policing measures, we are committed to ensuring community safety in the community of Dawson Creek.”

Residents are urged to report any criminal activity to police by calling the detachment or submitting an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers.
