Huskies donate $5K to FSJ Hospital Foundation cancer fund from Charity Game 

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John Huskies announced that $5,000 was raised at their “Stick it to Cancer” game in November.

A Facebook post on December 30th revealed the club has donated the funds to the Fort St. John Hospital Foundation.

Foundation executive director Kelly Amboe said the contribution exceeded the $2,000 raised by the Huskies in 2023 and was the largest in the event’s history.

Team president Michael Bacso wrote in a statement about the importance of local organizations contributing to non-profits such as the Hospital Foundation.

“The more equipment we can have and the more specialized technicians to operate the equipment goes a long way,” said Bacso.

“I’m proud of what the Huskies have been able to do over my ten years with the organization, and I look forward to what we can continue to do in the future.”

Amboe was at the North Peace Arena for practice and posed alongside the team for a group picture.

The funds donated will go toward the hospital’s cancer diagnostic and treatment fund, which helps those affected by cancer within the community. 

“It’s amazing,” said Amboe. “Without these third-party events being hosted in our name, we wouldn’t achieve the goals that we can achieve every year.”

Donning limited edition purple-trimmed jerseys, the Huskies played in the jerseys on November 1st and 2nd.

The jerseys were auctioned off during the latter game against the Fairview Flyers.  A 50/50 draw and auction with donations from local sponsors also took place.

They included the Butcher Block, Hair Bin Beauty Barber and Spa, Home Hardware Fort St. John, Ernie’s Sports Experts FSJ, Lone Wolf Golf Club, McDonald’s, and Street Legal Photography.

A nod also went to the U-15 Trackers program, which assisted the Huskies in setting up a shootout game to raise funds on the evening, and Traci Hammond, the club’s director, who has assisted on events like this and the team’s Fill the Bus Food Drive.
