DAWSON CREEK, B.C. — Dawson Creek Badminton Club’s (DCBC) first event at Kin Arena was enough of a success to consider it a permanent venue for future tournaments.

DCBC hosted its fourth-annual Spring Open tournament on Saturday, April 18th and Sunday, April 19th on the new badminton floor in Kin Arena.

Tournament master Devon Aaroe said the event was overall a “really good experience,” with the venue able to host more games than Dawson Creek Secondary South Peace Campus.

“[Kin Arena] has eight courts,” said Aaroe. “It has the most courts in the city, so it allows us to provide these larger events.”

“[South Peace campus] only has six courts, so we were limited in how many games we could push out.”

With draws in both mens’ and womens’ singles and doubles, as well as a mixed doubles draw, Aaroe stated this year’s event was well-attended, with 45 participants taking part with 100 matches on Saturday, April 18th.

The team event was on Sunday, April 19th and saw eight teams participate in 100 matches in total.

Entrants came from across the region, with players from Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, High Prairie, Grande Prairie, Peace River and Prince George.

“[Matches] really had a high caliber of play [with] super close games,” said Aaroe. “The facility actually worked out great.”

“The facility was awesome, and the staff of the facility were fantastic.”

With roots tracing back to the mid-1980s, Aaroe said the DCBC would consider returning to Kin Arena for future events.

“If we were to do it again, we would definitely be considering the Kin Arena because it really was a great venue to have,” said Aaroe.

The fourth annual DCBC Spring Open happened on Saturday, April 18th, and Sunday, April 19th in Dawson Creek at the Kin Arena.
