FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Local fighters took three of six bouts in Fivestar Fight League’s return to the Pomeroy Hotel and Conference Centre this past weekend.

A 12-bout card took place on Saturday, April 18th.  It was the first card held at the venue since Fivestar Frontier Fight Night last spring.

Promoter Justin Donally, who also acts as head trainer for Fivestar Boxing Academy, told Energeticcity.ca about the sell-out crowd’s energy in the venue, which was constant throughout.

“The crowd was roaring,” said Donally. “I have done a lot of shows at the Pomeroy, and I don’t remember it ever being that loud in there.”

“With fighters and athletes and coaches and Pomeroy staff, there was probably 800 people in that room. So it gets pretty loud and fun. It was a great night.”

The main event saw Fort St. John’s Mason Tetreault fight Quesnel’s Dan Mott in a light middleweight bout at 154 pounds, with Tetreault on the wrong side of a decision loss.

“[Mott] is a 20-plus year veteran of the sport,” said Donally. “[Tetreault] went almost two weight classes to fight him. He had to fight and grind his way through, but the older guy got the better of him.”

Additionally, local middleweight Ward Clarke suffered a defeat at the hands of Grande Prairie’s Hoshang Mirzaie, while Fivestar boxers Jace Peterson, Cameron Swanson and Max Kraeleman had victories.

Meanwhile, Marshall Krafczyk had a draw in his bout against Edmonton’s Zach Cuff.

Of the winners, Donally said he was impressed with Swanson, who won by second-round TKO against Lacombe’s Cashton Hutzkal.

“[Swanson’s] a brand new fighter, so you never know what to expect when you get him in the ring,” said Donally. “But he ended up stopping [Hutzkal] with body shots in the second round.”

“It was [Hutzkal’s] sixth or seventh fight, so that was a big deal. Cam looked really good.”

While it is Donally’s goal to have two cards per year he is unsure when a card in the fall will take place.
