“It’s important to us because all of our Canadian development is in the immediate area,” said Shewfelt.

The radiothon aims to raise $150,000 this year for a new MALDI Machine for the Fort St. John Hospital.

The device will help doctors quickly identify pathogens and speed up treatment with the right antibiotics, boosting patient recovery times.

Originally from the Peace region, Shewfelt says he likes seeing the results and benefits of investing in the area.

Being in the area, it’s something I personally take pride in to be able to see the results from the investments,” said Shewfelt

Last year, the Radiothon raised a record-breaking $197,000 to purchase a Phillips Epiq Elite Ultrasound machine.

Shewfelt hopes others will be inspired to donate to the radiothon to help benefit everyone in the community.

Chances Casino is sponsoring the event alongside several other local businesses, including the Pomeroy Hotel and Conference Centre, Bluewave Energy, the Fort St. John Co-op, and Home Hardware.

Mustang Rentals and North River Midstream will also be matching donations from residents.

People can donate to the hospital at FSJHospitalfoundation.ca or by calling 250-793-0998.
