FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Police officers in Fort St. John are voicing their support for an upcoming annual event raising money to support retired police and military service dogs.

The annual “Ned’s Wish Heroes Run” is scheduled for October 5th, with physical events in Edmonton, Alberta, and Nobleton, Ontario, and a “virtual run” for participants anywhere in Canada.

The run sees participants running alongside their dogs, raising money for Ned’s Wish, a charity that provides financial and educational support to caretakers of retired military and police dogs nationwide.

“My first police dog, Dirks Regimental #936, has benefited from this program and it literally extended his life in retirement,” explains Corporal Dan Cloutier, a member of the Fort St. John Police Service Dog Unit.

“Needless to say, I’m a big supporter of this cause. My wife and I have been involved with Ned’s Wish for a few years now.”

The 2024 event will commemorate the life of Bingo, a service dog with the Toronto Police Service who was shot and killed while locating a homicide suspect last summer.

Registration for the virtual run costs $50. A $90 registration package, which includes benefits like a Ned’s Wish t-shirt, is also available.
