Wildfire near Jasper National Park affects Highway 16 travel
A travel advisory has been issued for Highway 16 due to ongoing evacuations in the area.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – A travel advisory has been issued for Highway 16 due to ongoing evacuations in the area.
At 9 a.m. on July 23rd, the province issued a travel advisory for wildfire evacuees from the Municipality of Jasper and Jasper National Park.Â
The advisory recommends evacuees travel on Highway 16 through B.C. and then find a route back to Alberta.Â

This travel advisory will remain in effect for the foreseeable future, and DriveBC and the province state that updates will be provided when possible.Â
For B.C. drivers, the province recommends specific travel instructions for those travelling west on Highway 16 to Calgary or Grande Prairie.
For travel to Grande Prairie, drivers are instructed to take Highway 16 west to Prince George, proceed north to Dawson Creek via Highway 97, and then east to Grande Prairie.
When heading to Calgary, drivers are encouraged to take Highway 5 south to Kamloops and then west on Highway 1 towards Calgary.Â
