UPDATED: Highway 97 open north of Fort Nelson after severe flooding

UPDATE as of 9 p.m. on July 24, 2024 – The Alaska Highway is open near KM 624.  The highway is open to single-lane alternating traffic. Obey signs and traffic control personnel. The next update time is on Thursday, Jul 25, at 8:00 PM MST.

Updated as of 9:30 p.m. July 23, 2024 – The Highway is closed again after being open briefly Tuesday afternoon. Just before 8 p.m. on July 23, 2024, it was announced the Highway was closed in both directions. It is believed the flooding in the area of KM 624 of the Alaska Highway made conditions in the area worse as the day went on. The next update is expected at 8 a.m. on July 24, 2024.

Just before 9 a.m., Drive BC announced that Highway 97 was closed in both directions due to severe flooding between 115 Creek Campground and Callison Road, 167 kilometres north of Fort Nelson. 

No estimated time for reopening has been announced, but an update has been scheduled for 12 noon through Drive BC.
