CHARLIE LAKE, B.C. — According to the Peace River Regional District (PRRD), nobody was hurt in the Friday afternoon fire near 273 Road in Charlie Lake.

A memo from the PRRD’s Communications department says the Charlie Lake Fire Department (CLFD) first responded to the blaze as a grass and brush fire at 2:16 p.m. May 31st.

“During the response, the call escalated to a structure fire, involving multiple buildings, vehicles and additional equipment as the fire spread beyond the initial property due to dense grass and brush,” the memo says.

The CLFD received mutual aid from the Fort St. John Fire Department, BC Wildfire Service, and North Peace Regional Airport as it battled the blaze.

“Thanks to their collaborative and well-coordinated efforts, the incident was contained and extinguished,” the memo reads.

“The dwellings on the affected properties did not sustain any damage, and no community members were displaced. No reported injuries.”

Meanwhile, according to the PRRD, another fire began at 2:46 p.m. the same day, in Moberly Lake.

Local firefighters were able to quickly extinguish that blaze, and there were no reported injuries there either, but the PRRD does say three residential properties were affected.
