CHARLIE LAKE, B.C. — A wildfire spotted near Charlie Lake is now listed as ‘under control,’ according to BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).

BCWS has confirmed the location is approximately two kilometres south of the area.

Charlie Lake Elementary Principal Glen Longley confirmed to Energeticcity.ca that he could see the smoke from the school on Friday afternoon.

“It’s up the 273, there, from the highway,” Longley said. “So, if you just go up the 273, it’s up there on the right-hand side.”

According to the BCWS website, the blaze is eight hectares in size and is suspected to have been caused by human activity.

BCWS also says no evacuation orders or alerts have been issued for the fire.

Fire information officer Pedro Roldan-Delgado confirmed BCWS has sent two para-attack crews and an intermediate helicopter to assist.

Annette Andrews, the Communications Manager for the Peace River Regional District (PRRD), told EnergeticCity.ca in an email that her team is “awaiting an update and report from Incident Command on a reported current structure fire in Charlie Lake.”

“[The Charlie Lake Fire Department] has responded and has requested mutual aid from [Fort St. John],” Andrews added.

A reporter with EnergeticCity.ca at the scene confirmed a portion of 242 Road and 273 road was being blocked off so that firefighters could access the area.

EnergeticCity.ca has contacted the Charlie Lake Fire Department and the Fort St. John Fire Department to learn more about the situation, and will update this article as more information becomes available.
