Canada’s Senior Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Team qualifies for Paralympics

Canada’s Senior Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Team has qualified for the 2024 Paralympic Games after a 72-60 victory over Team Italy on Monday.

ANTIBES, FRANCE — Canada’s Senior Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Team has qualified for the 2024 Paralympic Games after a 72-60 victory over Team Italy on Monday.

Team Canada’s triumph occurred at the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation’s IWBF Repechage Tournament in Antibes, France.

Despite a fourth quarter push from Italy, the men’s team outscored the opposition 18-17 to secure the win. Team Canada finished shooting 60 per cent from the field and limited Italy to 22 of 63 shooting.

Wonowon’s Bo Hedges, Team Canada’s co-captain, averaged 2.5 points per game, one assist, and 1.3 rebounds in four games during the tournament. 

The senior men’s team has competed in every Paralympic Games since 1968, winning gold in 2000, 2004, and 2012. 

The 2024 Paralympic Games take place from August 28th to September 8th in Paris, France.
