Blizzard Bicycle Club kicks off season with Roubaix Road Race

The Blizzard Bicycle Club kicked off the 2024 season with the Roubaix Road Race last weekend.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Blizzard Bicycle Club kicked off the 2024 season with the Roubaix Road Race last weekend. 

Five racers gathered for the 25-kilometre race on Sunday in Baldonnel, where they hit the pavement in favourable weather conditions. 

Last season’s hailing champion, Nigel Wray, came out on top once again, finishing the road race in first place with a time of 52:29.

Barb Jarnagin took second place with a time of 59:07, with Jay Weber hot on her heels in third place, clocking in at 59:43. 

The bicycle club will meet at 2 p.m. on Friday for its annual Spring Stage Series, which consists of six races, beginning with the three-kilometre Beatton Hill Climb. 

The second race will take place on Saturday at the same time in the form of a circuit race, consisting of three laps around the Frozen John loop.

On Sunday, also at 2 p.m., the cyclists will compete in the third race of the series — the 25-kilometre Baldonnel Road Race.
