FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Fivestar Boxing is making the final preparations for its upcoming event on April 27th at the Pomeroy Hotel and Conference Centre.

The card will feature 15 fights, including 10 boxers from Fort St. John and area, as well as fighters making the trip from around B.C. and Alberta.

Fivestar’s owner and head coach, Justin Donally, says he prioritized pushing local talent to the forefront when he began holding events twelve years ago. This came after he saw the challenges of having to travel far away to get exposure for his fighters.

“When I was travelling all the time to places like Vancouver or Edmonton, it was rough,” said Donally. “Fighters having to get a flight there and [other expenses], there’d been no combat sports in Fort St. John.”

Fivestar Fight League 27’s main event will feature Fort St. John product Nick Young, who currently trains out of Parksville on Vancouver Island.

Young began his training in Fort St. John under the tutelage of Donally, who says Young’s upcoming amateur bout will likely be his last before turning pro.

“Nick went to Vancouver Island to get better sparring partners and better training,” said Donally.

Other local fighters competing at Fight League 27 include Lane Harris and Brayden Sims.

Harris is riding a six-fight winning streak and currently serves as an assistant coach at Fivestar as well.

“He’ll likely be slated in the co-feature,” said Donally of Harris, who has an amateur record of 7-1.

Harris will compete at the YYC Cup in Calgary the following weekend after the Fivestar show.

For Sims, he will be stepping into the ring for the first time in nearly five years. Sims has medaled in the Canada Winter Games and has an amateur record of 23-5.

Tickets can be purchased online through Showpass or in United Rentals and Crooked Corner Clothing in Fort St. John next week.

For VIP inquiries, including table reservations, you can contact Donally directly at fivestarfightleague@gmail.com or by phone at 250-793-0988.
