The letter, written by Electoral Area C director Brad Sperling, outlined the critical importance of the bridge for commuters’ daily traffic, transporting goods and economic development on a local and provincial level.

“The bridge, in service since its inauguration in 1960, has emerged as a linchpin in both the regional and national transportation network,” Sperling said.

Long-term goals for the bridge include evolving the demands to accommodate transportation infrastructure on a national level.

“Astonishingly, 30 percent of the total traffic crossing the bridge consists of commercial vehicles laden with goods, establishing a crucial link that connects the Peace region to destinations as far-reaching as the Yukon,” Sperling continued.
