UPDATE: Canada Post mailbox taken from 88th Street in Fort St. John recovered by police

Police have since recovered a Canada Post mailbox taken from 88th Street on December 30th.

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Fort St. RCMP say they have recovered a Canada Post mailbox that was recently stolen from 88th Street and 85th Avenue.

Police received a report about the stolen mailbox at 7:26 a.m. on December 30th.

Staff Sergeant Scott Watson with the Fort St. John RCMP says the mailbox was located on 259 Road and mail had been stolen.

The mailbox was strapped to a white pickup truck and dragged away, according to police.

On social media, residents are saying the marks on the ground may have been from thread-cutting oil or hydraulics from a mobile crane on the back of a truck, also known as a picker.

The RCMP says the investigation is ongoing.

Canada Post says affected customers can temporarily collect their mail at the Fort St. John Post Office at 10139 101st Avenue from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday. Customers will be required to bring a government issued photo ID.

Canada Post expects delivery to resume to the community mailbox site within the next two weeks.

Those who believe they have not received a letter are asked to contact the sender and if a parcel delivery is missing, contact Canada Post’s Customer Service and the sender.

Customers concerned about identity fraud are asked by Canada Post to contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-8501.
