BC Highway Patrol seized 60 grams of suspected cocaine and several hundred dollars in cash after pulling over a speeding vehicle on Friday night in South Taylor.

TAYLOR, B.C. — BC Highway Patrol seized 60 grams of suspected cocaine and several hundred dollars in cash after pulling over a speeding vehicle on Friday night in South Taylor.

According to the RCMP, the BC Highway Patrol was on Highway 97 near 226 Road in South Taylor at about 8 p.m. when an officer witnessed a speeding SUV.

The older SUV was reportedly travelling 138 kilometres an hour in a posted 100 kilometres per hour zone.

Police say they stopped the vehicle without incident, but the 19-year-old male driver with a BC class 7 driver’s license exhibited signs of impairment. 

According to officers, an odour of liquor was detected, and police conducted an impaired driving assessment. Evidence from the scene also suggested the driver was impaired by drugs and alcohol.

Police found over 60 grams of suspected cocaine and several hundred dollars in cash during the investigation.

The 19-year-old was arrested for possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking. He was served two driving prohibitions under the BC Motor Vehicle Act and numerous violation tickets.

Police say the man was later released and may face charges of impaired driving and drug trafficking.
