FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society needs over 20 Christmas Hamper sponsors this holiday season.

Lilly Loichinger, the outreach store coordinator, says they received a lot of applications for hampers, with several being approved, but they are about 22 sponsors short.

“I’m optimistic. We’re hoping to get everything caught up here. We are in a wonderful community,” Loichinger said.

The society’s hamper program aims to provide low-income families with Christmas presents and food over the holidays.

The applicants for the hampers are given a form to fill out that asks for information to verify they are low-income and a detailed wish list from each child in the family.

“We match them up with a sponsor best suited to meet their needs,” Loichinger said.

The coordinator says sponsors are also asked to fill out an application form on what they can provide to a family.

Loichinger will set the sponsor up with a drop-off date, and the family will pick the hamper up shortly after.

Toys and all winter gear provided will need to be brand new. The society also asks that all grocery store gift cards be a minimum of $50 per person.

Those interested in sponsoring a family’s Christmas hamper are asked to contact Loichinger at outreachstore@fsjwrs.ca or the Women’s Resource Society at 250-787-1121 by November 24th at 3 p.m.

The society is also looking for donations of new toys, turkeys, chickens and hams for the Christmas table for families who didn’t qualify for the Christmas Hampers.
