FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — The City of Fort St. John is requesting public input on a development variance permit for a 115-unit seniors housing complex at a November 27th council meeting.

The project’s proposed location is 9636 100th Avenue, where the old hospital used to be located.

The applicant is looking to change the required number of parking stalls from 112 to 94, the front parcel line setback from 7.5 metres to 4.5 metres, and the flanking exterior side parcel line setback from 4.5 metres to 2.4 metres.

The project was previously titled Harlequin at Prairie Rose Park.

Earlier in the year, it was announced the VRS Communities project near the Fort St. John Hospital and Peace Villa would no longer proceed, and the land was put back on the market.

Kevin Pearson, with Century 21, said the decision to sell the land was due to the high cost of servicing it.

The newly proposed project will be located on a portion of the old Fort St. John Hospital site at 9636 100th Avenue and will be called The Harlequin at City Centre.

A copy of the proposed variance and related documents can be found at City Hall, 10631 100th Street, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday until the council meeting.

Residents who wish to comment on the proposed application can submit them by mailing or hand-delivering them to city hall or emailing legislativeservices@fortstjohn.ca.

Written comments will be distributed to the council for consideration at the meeting.

During the meeting, the public will also be allowed to make a presentation to the council or present written submissions.

The council meeting will be broadcast live on the city’s website and YouTube channel.

The city’s planner can be contacted at sloarn@fortst.john.ca or 250-787-8157 for more information about the application.
